Our purpose

Museum stories,
carefully told.

Santa Monica History Museum is the name of this independent museum-focused publication. It is a place to read about collection objects, exhibitions, archival materials, museum-related events, and the lives connected to them.

We approach a museum subject through questions: What is visible? What does its record tell us? What remains uncertain? The aim is to connect an interesting detail to its documented context without turning an interpretation into a fact.

The publication does not operate a museum, own the collections discussed, organize museum programs, or sell admission tickets.

What guides the journal

01 / Subject

A museum connection

Every feature should connect to a documented object, exhibition, archive, program, or museum-learning question. General travel guides and business listings sit outside this editorial scope.

02 / Approach

Evidence before inference

Collection records and first-party announcements anchor the reporting. Interpretation is identified as interpretation, and gaps in the evidence are left visible rather than filled with invented details.

Independent by design

Clear about who we are

This is an independent publication about the Santa Monica History Museum. It is not affiliated with or operated by the museum, the City of Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, or any government agency.

For the institution’s own information, use the official museum website. Our articles are independent explanations, not official museum statements.
